Drove in to work in snow showers this morning, and although there was no accumulation, it was still pretty to see. It begs one question, though- since it's pretty much spring, why are we getting more snowfall- in terms of days, at least, if not quantity, than we did during the winter?
I'm going to try a new tack today- spending less time being disgruntled about work and more time looking for other positions here. We'll see....

Gotta go to a meeting shortly- about planning automation for upgrade scenarios. I've put a fairly good amount of work into preparing for this meeting; but now, ten minutes before it's supposed to take place, i can't help that there's something major i've forgotten to include. Paranoia is setting in.
I'm so ready to find a job in another department. For that matter, even this one wouldn't be intolerable if there was a little more certainty here, but it's really disconcerting from s software tester's perception to be a year into the development of a product and still be missing big key pieces of what logic would say has to be foundational decisions- things like what's the minimum operating system which will be required for this to work.
I'm going to try not to stress over these things- there certainly isn't jack i can do to influence them- and try just plugging ahead a day at a time until i get to escape to somewhere else.

OK. I feel better now- that meeting went well and I had answers for everyone's questions. There's still a lot up in the air, but for the moment, we've defined points of focus, and can work toward goals there, rather than having to worry about full coverage. It's unlikely that any cuts would hit our target area, but a lot of the other areas which are spec'ed currently should go away- supporting four versions of the product as valid upgrades, for example should give way to two. Likewise, we refined our operating system focus to where we think the spec will settle- so should have reasonable coverage there.
Anyway, on to non-work matters. Christine is coming by for dinner tonight, and she's got her own crop of stresses to deal with. Just gives me something else for which to be thankful- at least my work schedule is pretty static within its flexibility- unless we're in crunch-time, it's 40 week-day hours, including core hours of 10-3, with the balance falling on whatever side they happen to fit; which is a lot better than dealing with retail time, opening some days, closing others, rarely having two contiguous days off and hardly ever on a weekend.
See. I told myself. It could be worse.

Christine came over for dinner tonight, and stayed to hang out until just a little bit ago. She's finally put in her notice, and is ready to go work somewhere else. Hopefully we'll be able to find her something entry-level in the software industry- tech support or something of that nature, because it'd give her a start on a career while not putting a damper on her nature or personal (pierced, tattooed, multi-coloured hair) style. She's really a sweetie, and i hope we manage to still hang out regularly after she's no longer working a few hundred yards away.
We sat around listening to music for a while, then put Star Wars on- not necessarily an ideal date film, but it was fun. Alexander was his little typical 'push-as-many-of-everyone's-buttons-as-possible' self, but, considering his age not too bad. I think he amuses her as much as everyone else.
Anyway, i'm hoping we all manage to hang out. I've decided the whole concept of having adult friends to hang out with is really a good idea ;-)> and that i need to do more socializing than the occasional lunch with Cadmus or revseandoe.
Ma's fada a bhios an t-ágh, thig se fa dheireadh, perkigoth- though luck be long in coming, in time it will come. Blessings on you!
