Took the boys to the movies today- alexander wanted to see the latest installation in the Spy Kids series.

I'll keep the review short: i've seen porn films with more of a plot and better writing. Even bad porn films. This wasn't even well enough done to be bad but funny because of it- it was just a vehicle to do a 3D film, and it rode that one trick pony to death.

Only notable line: Ricardo Montelban as the kid's wheelchair-bound grandfather to one of the technicians at the spy agency who was trying to help him by moving the chair: "Don't touch that. It's rrrich Corinthian leather."

One star out of ten, and lucky to get that. Falling below the single star threshold are movies so bad as to be worthy of walking out of rather than continuing to insult one's intelligence.

Okay, so -I- know now what to expect out of it...did Alexander enjoy it? If so..then my girls will probably enjoy it as. They loved the second installation of Spy Kids. *sighs*

Even i liked the first two Spy Kids. The big difference, aside from the writing and plot in this one is that the parents are almost completely absent (they're in the last, oh, five minutes, and may have all of two lines), and it's missing the balance they provide accordingly.

I think the target audience is 5-13. Alexander loved it. The rest of us were wishing we'd seen the new Tomb Raider, Johnny English, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or something.

You mean movies like the Godzilla remake, Batman & Robin and Starship Troopers?

Dunno. Never saw two of the three of those, and since i went into Starship Troopers not expecting it to be a good storyline replica of the book, wasn't disappointed. We actually own it on DVD- the director's commentary on what they wanted to do with the film is pretty damn interesting.

Well I've not read the book, but suffice it to say I thought the movie was one big pile of tripe. To each their own. :)

We call it "Ken and Barbie in Space."

It's amusing to watch every now and then, just for the bug mayhem scenes.

I, too, read the book and was kinda disappointed with what they did with it. But how can you expect movie makers to live up to the kind of reputation the author has?

On the other hand, it was kind of amusing in that "Duh" scifi way. Just check your brain at the door and watch the pretty effects. :)
