Aug. 30th, 2002 11:15 pmInteresting day. Didn't end up going to the zoo with the Ryans- they weren't able to make it, so we ended up going wandering downtown and to the aquarium.
Started out at the new place, getting information for the utility companies and getting everything set up so we'll be good to go mid-month, then headed downtown.
Parked at 1st and Bell, stopped by The Endless Knot, then walked down to Pike Place. Walked past Cibola and noticed in their window along with the price listing of some of the shirts they carry a colour print of
gwynn_aaron and his wedding party in their wedding finery, which came from the shop. This wouldn't necessarily be an odd thing, but Gwynn and his lovely wife Lauren (
ithilien) don't live out here yet. Also spent a lot of time in Lark in the Morning which is one of the most eeeeevil stores in the world if you've a weakness for musical instruments. Played several whistles, including a low D one which has fingering spans wider apart than a pipe chanter, and is almost tough for me to play. I can imagine trying to do so with smaller hands is nearly impossible. Drooled over the harps and the Uillean pipes. Watched alexander play with a melodeon for quite a while. Kid seems to love it. We'll end up with quite the family band at this rate- i'll handle pipes, whistles, guitar, and would like to add bodhran, alexander on button box and recorder and who knows what else,
damashita can play the whistles as well or better than i can and wants to take up violin, and has played flute before. Now we just need to date a keyboardist and/or bassist....
Aquarium after Lark in the Morning. Took a handful of pictures with the digital camera- haven't pulled them off the SmartCard yet, so no idea exactly how they turned out. Stay tuned- if there're any amazing images, i'll post them.
After the aquarium, we walked down to Pioneer Square and all took a closeup look at the rebuilt Pergola, which is now officially open. Alexander was getting cranky by this point, so it was back to the car and then home, but still had been a pretty nice day. :-)
