Ended up not going to the club last night, which necessitated cancelling plans with [livejournal.com profile] mediavore. Hopefully we're still on for Wednesday.

Felt really pretty icky last night, and part of today. I think my system's so messed up from all the stress lately that it just doesn't know what to do about it now, so it's acting out by giving me just a generally sour stomach. Yum- the prospects of a double shot of Mylanta. :-(

Had some "found money"- an unexpected cheque from the state for a touch over $200- and finally broke down and invested in a digital camera.

Found what appears to be a decent one- a Toshiba PDR-M25, which had all the features of some of the more expensive ones we'd priced and then some, but at a significantly lower price- optical zoom, 2.2 megapixels, manual photographic options, black and white emulation, exposure compensation of plus or minus a stop and a half. The glass isn't Leica or Carl Zeiss, but seems adequate. We'll see how it works out. It'll be nice to start experimenting with shooting again and get the instant gratification of seeing the images immediately- and the inch and a half LCD screen will be like a cross between looking at 35mm transparencies and medium format (6 x 6 cm or 6 x 4.5- i have both types of backs) ones.

Did a little experimentation, and it doesn't seem that there's a problem with it focusing through filters, either, so i may end up shooting in black and white mode through dark red filtration, and ending up with a reasonable digital simulacrum of infrared photography, which i really miss, in part because it's so different in feel, but also because it's really contrasty- when printing, i tend to print to grade 3 or 4, and cold, unless it's something intentionally soft, in which case i'll use a Tiffen soft focus grade 3 filter in shooting, and print to grade 0, generally, and consider either printing warm or cool, depending on subject- or even toning to selenium or sepia.

OK, i'm putting down the photo geek-crackpipe now, and will stop babbling.
