Jul. 19th, 2002 10:43 amLast night was a really nice night. Didn't stress out in traffic on the way home, just listened to lots of music and kept a fairly even keel, even though it took nearly two hours to make the trip. Seven Nations and Great Big Sea are good for my sanity. Listened to Rain and Thunder from 7N and both of the cds from Maggie's Fury.
Got in and started working on a new essay on the nature of the Divine Fool, complete with hefty disclaimers that it's based both on the appearance of these characters in legend and on personal experience; which will of course lead some sorts to dismiss it out of hand as irresponsible neo-paganism, but which i see as being fairly culturally sensitive- my experiences and understanding are just the mortar to piece together the gleanings from lore.
Walked over to the Skagit pagan coffee gathering (rather a bit late), and saw Erin on the way- which reminds me-
damashita, Erin says hi and that you and she will have to manage to connect sometime.
Because i wasn't sure who was going to be there, if anyone other than Jann, i took the pipe case along, figuring now that my bug has all but vanished (still have a little rattle in my upper chest and the occasional cough) that i could at least adjust the two drone reeds which were sticking if it were a sparse gathering. Ended up staying there for about an hour, during which time i ended up adjusting all the reeds and getting them to work properly.
Walked home with alexander at about 8:45, and once we got across Burlington Blvd., i took the newly adjusted pipes out and played them for the rest of the walk home. Didn't do anything in particular, just tootled around some fairly non-musical collections of notes, primarily working on fingering around the crossing notes. It felt good to play again. I need to do so more often. Now that there isn't an evil bacteria or virus kicking around in my lungs and i can breathe and don't need to worry quite so much about making the pipes toxic (hey- what's a warm, dark, damp hide bag other than a breeding ground for bacterial haggis?), i'm going to make an effort to do so on a semi-regular basis.
Figure that i looked really pretty dorky- i ended up dressing in "casual goth"- black jeans tucked into combat boots, Siouxie and the Banshees tee shirt with black cord overshirt- and the pipes are black rosewood and have a black velvet bag cover. Wheee! I never claimed to have a sense of fashion. Nor, for the most part, do i care.
Came back, fixed food- and alexander fell asleep before it was ready, so he didn't eat- and answered e-mail, browsed around the discussions on the SeaGoth forums, had a nice chat with Heather, and went to bed around 11. The ending of the day was far better than the beginning.
And today's Friday. There's a big Office Friday Fest in the courtyard between buildings 16, 17 and 18 starting at 3 today (i work in 16), so the work day pretty much ends at three today. I may go and see what sorts of festivities are about, but will probably head home in fairly short order- it's not particularly a lot of fun to be a vegetarian at a barbeque and also a non-drinker because of the upcoming drive home.

I'm addicted.
Date: 2002-07-19 11:36 am (UTC)You've officially gotten me addicted to GBS & 7N.... no complaints though. None atall.
If that's all it takes to keep this permagrin, I'm perfectly willing.
"Bacterial Haggis" still gags me out... *squick!*
I sincerely enjoyed out chat last night (as always) and look forward to the next opportunity!

Date: 2002-07-19 12:38 pm (UTC)"I'm going fast as i can,
Please don't make me rush,
This feeling is coming on way too fast.
I'll tell you all of the things I could never forget,
But i'm not ready to say 'I love you' yet."
Isn't that just the most amazing bit? In the days of evanescent relationships and what not, hearing this from anyone- especially a male, given the stereotypical "Men give love to get sex; women give sex to get love" mindset that seems to dominate so many thought patterns; it's good to see that there are some other men out there who get the picture and realize there's more to a relationship than that.

i've always been
the fool who rushes in.
You've got to take the pieces
one by one
before you've got everything,"
right?
With whomever, whenever, take all the time you need. There's never any need to rush. Anyone who tries to pressure you is simply out of order.
Re: I'm addicted.
Date: 2002-07-19 02:25 pm (UTC)We need to talk about this in a less public forum. I could use a little insight/ encouragement/ reassurance/ validation.
In truth though, right now I don't know that I could *be* any happier! Perma-grin ROCKS! I keep catching myself grinning for no real reason at all - and if That ain't enough to make ya keep right on smilin'!!!!
"And I know you're in a hurry
but its gonna take a while.
So forgive me if we go slow,
but there's something I think you should know"
-- you know, we're gonna have the whole bloody song on here before long.
"Sea of Fear" is quickly gaining points on my list as well...
I have a feeling the more I hear, the more addicted I'll become. Thank you!
