OK, so being sick has been absolutely no fun at all- at least the being sick part of it. The lying in bed and/or lazing about the house all day hasn't been too bad, though. It's given me the chance to stage a mini movie festival. Screenings so far have included:
  • Bedazzled- This happened to be on HBO last night, and i love Brendan Fraser's sense of comic timing, even if this wasn't one of his best roles. Still it was on, and gave me the idea.

  • The Truth About Cats and Dogs- Janeane Garofalo as a strong, intelligent, witty woman. If she were just a bit taller and a redhead, she'd simultaneously hit all my archetypes. 'Nuff said.

  • Ever After- Drew Barrymore can actually act, and the costuming and visuals in this retelling of Cinderella are worth the price of admission in and of themselves.

  • My Fair Lady- Audrey Hepburn. Need I say more? Shaw's Pygmalion is one of my favourite plays as well, and Rex Harrison is the ultimate Professor Henry Higgins.

  • Alexander Nevsky- I found both of my copies of this GosFilm classic. The work of Sergei Eisenstein, who i can best describe as the Soviet John Ford; with stunning musical score by Sergei Prokofiev, freshly re-recorded by the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. The Germans might have thought twice about attacking Russia in 1941 if they had seen this film beforehand. The message was clear back then. In the words of Alexander Nevsky himself: "Do not enter Russia with a sword in your hand." Well, you can't say they weren't warned.

  • Still to come:
Ladyhawke and a film to be determined at time of viewing- likely either Pleasantville or Grosse Point Blank
