Just got off the phone with Christine, and heard that the job she was almost certain she'd get fell through. Poor t'ing. Now she's really panicking.
Fortunately, our most recent Arabic build is terminally fubared, so there's nothing pressing for me to do, so i'm going to be a good friend and do a bit of looking around for her- maybe someone in the seagoth community will have something, so i'm off to check the crack-board and whatever else i can think of.

I just realized something. I know a fairly good number of people. Even some who are in positions to know if there are jobs where they work, and how adaptive their respective employers might be to people with black, royal blue and purple hair, the occasional piercing and tattoos which can easily be covered by clothing.
If only Christine had tech skills, i'd recommend her for any tech support type stuff out there. I know she's smart enough that she'd be able to pick it up quickly, and i will personally invest the time necessary to ramp her as fast as possible, so if any of you Seattle area folks happen to hear of something where you work that's entry-level, lemme know and i'll pass it on.
For that matter, it's a shame Keane isn't still open out here. I know she's smarter than a lot of the people i worked with there. Of course, the smart ones put in their 6 months to a year in support hell and moved onward and upward to other places, but still, it was a great place to start in the industry, and you could be a star by simply not being a complete idiot and doing your job competently while trying not to react to some of the stupid things people on the other end said or did.

but i heard first thing from my friend Cadmus that there's an open position in his group which is currently under the radar. I'd be so all over that. Office isn't particularly interesting at best, and dealing in toddler scribble languages is far from an optimal fit for me.
It'd be nice to have a testing job again where working on the project was interesting, rather than just what i do for the forty or more hours a week. I understand how operating systems and software work, but dealing with them in incomprehensible languages just takes all the fun out of it.
It also totally rocks to know that there are people who actually think of me when they hear of openings.
