Ended up being able to go after all, but arrived a bit after the 11:00 start. The field at Seattle U wasn't any worse than the Interbay one we used last week- a few irregular places and a few drainage marshes. Missed a little loosening up, but adapted on the fly. Playing in goal helps a bit with that, especially since we're trying to get some of our abject beginners a little confidence- i wasn't diving for everything today, especially with a still slightly sore right thigh.

Ended up playing right midfield in a condensed field scrimmage just to even out the numbers. Didn't feel too bad running at that, either, but my conditioning is definitively lacking.

Are any of the others who read this perhaps interested in a Saturday soccer practice- starting no earlier than 10 a.m.? It'd be nice to have a few more people playing so that we can hopefully get into the Seattle Parks & Rec league in the winter. Any takers? [livejournal.com profile] krautboy? [livejournal.com profile] hockeypuck14? (i know both of you have played or coached before, or said something to indicate you've at least a marginal interest) Not sure if any of the female readers have a history, but it is a co-ed team, and some of the people playing have played for two weeks or less now, so there's no super skill level you'd have to overcome. Since i've singled out a couple of the guys, i'll do likewise for the ladies, just for gender equity. ;-) [livejournal.com profile] mockly? [livejournal.com profile] heddo98? C'mon. Ya know ya wanna run around with a bunch of other people. ;-)

I'd love to participate since I haven't had a chance to play Soccer since before I joined Boy Scouts (joined Scouts when I was 13). Unfortunately I can't, though, for obvious reasons :-( Maybe next year?

Keep a space open for me in defense (hoping that I'm remembering my terminology right)...

Yes. And more properly it's football, unlike the North American sport where the ball hardly ever is kicked or otherwise struck with a foot.

Well yeah, but having lived in North America all my life I don't think you'll have much luck in getting me to use the names known in the rest of the world.

I too would love to play when we get out there. I was an on the all-star teams several years in a row when I was a kid... of course, this was like 15 years ago... but I enjoy playing most sports where skating is not involved. Weak ankles, y-see... :)

When do you need to know? I'm taking 6 months off of hockey to fix my back. If I show marginal improvement in the next two months, I *might* be interested.

Worst case, I can come watch from time to time and make fun of you. It's been a while since I did that anyway.

Looking at making the Seattle Parks and Rec winter league season. Practices so far are Saturdays 11ish, and if i keep playing midfield (which wouldn't be likely, as no one else wants to wear the ugly goal shirt), i might run back into shape about six months out as well.

Run into shape? I'd be lucky to do that. I've planed out at about 195-200lbs now consistent. Now that I'm taking time off hockey, I have to run a lot more at the gym....yet, I'm not completely convinced that the running wasn't what f'ed up my back somehow. Anything that has to do with physical activity seems to be bad for me.
