Yesterday afternoon we went over to visit [livejournal.com profile] damashita's sister (well, not quite blood-sister, but they were raised together, and are pretty much sister-like) and her family/extended family over on the Eastside. It was a fairly uneventful day until evening started to set in. Tari has a little 'toy' dog named George. Her brother Gene and sister-in-law Cinammon share the house, and have a dalmatian. The household occasionally fosters dogs for one of the local rescues- at the time of writing they have one, named Matt because when he came to the rescue he was so matted he needed extensive trimming to remove all the clumped and tangled matted hair.

About 7:30, this dog decided he wanted to be inquisitive and check out Nicholas. He didn't take voice commands from [livejournal.com profile] damashita to back away from the baby, so she ended up pushing him away a little. This apparently poked some sort of canine psychosis trigger, because he seemed to be determined to get back there, in the process of which he scratched nicholas and seemed to be getting excessively aggressive. Somewhere in the process, he got shoved down again and i tried to get between the dog and [livejournal.com profile] damashita and nicholas. Apparently this hit the doggy psychosis trigger again- he didn't get back at the baby, but i got bitten twice on the back of the thigh in the process.

Since Cinammon has a baby girl eight weeks younger than nicholas, they reached the conclusion that having an occasionally psychotic mutt around probably isn't a good thing- he'll be returning to the rescue for a period of quarantine around 11 a.m. while they figure out what to do with him. As for my leg, i've got some big-ass bruises and it's pretty sore, but survivable.

Oh, he did break the skin. 2 puncture/scrapes high up near the glute and 2-4 6" long scratches where the lower bruises are. All have been cleaned out with peroxide and treated with polysporin. But, it didn't rip his pants! :)

Yikes. That had to be pretty scary for you and Vanessa. I'm glad no serious damage was done.

No... he is current on all his shots (for what that is worth). Part of the whole "purebred dog rescue" thing. :)
