Yesterday was a Good Day™. A little bizarre at a point, but all around excellent. Started with a call from a recruiter, saying he had a short-term contract for me, six to eight weeks at twenty dollars an hour, doing black-box monkey testing (no test-case development required, just running pre-existing scripts), starting Monday. Sounded like it might be a good thing. Used it as an excuse to check in with my old colleagues who are doing The Matrix Online to see what their timetable looked like- i'd rather get in there from Day One if they're close to being ready for testers.

Alexander went to spend the night with his grandparents- grandma came down and picked him up. Yay! Parental date day! So we went to see Pirates of the Carribean at Pacific Place (nicholas came along, but he's fairly unintrusive). Good movie- fun, with the occasional campy bits and CGI overblown in places, but not as badly as in some films. Caught a few minor inaccuracies with the history (the Royal Marines weapons were off- the muskets used at that time had plug bayonets, not socket ones; the nine-pounders on one of the ships were clearly four-pound guns from the size of the projectiles they fired; at one point a reference was made to a historical figure who wouldn't come into prominence for a hundred and fifty years or so), but nothing that detracted from the story at all, and nothing that someone without a degree in history who happened to have written a bit on period weapons would have caught.

Call from the recruiter came sometime while we were watching the movie- he left voicemail indicating that the post was on indefinite hold, due to something which was going on on the client end (i'm guessing that they slipped the schedule on what they're deploying and figured they weren't going to need people testing it quite yet). Not a big deal- as noted, i'm not thrilled with taking it, but it did provide a reason to try and find out what the schedule looks like with the position i do want.

After the movie, we noodled around downtown for a bit, then came home after a little drive. It was a nice time, and reminded me that [livejournal.com profile] damashita and i get to go on dates all too infrequently.
