Hi, my name is wingedelf, and i'm a blogoholic.

*waits for the chorus of welcomes*

Yes, you heard that right. I'm addicted. Not that i have anything that's really that important to declaim to the world, but i'm hooked anyway.

I love some of the communal features available with LiveJournal, and i like being able to share elements of what's going on in my life with my friends—and, perhaps more importantly, to keep up with all my friends on one page— but i'd like to be able to do some more serious writing and would prefer being able to keep it all in one place, and in a database which i own.

With that in mind, i'm finding that my journal entries tend to fall into a troika of categories:

  • mundane life. These would most likely stay here.

  • quasi-journalism. Of late, these have been the hockey series. In general, they tend more toward being political op-ed things.

  • essays. These haven't been overly common of late, but i'd like to get back into making them more regularly. Within this category fall promised pieces on Celtic Reconstructionist paganism and religion in general; thoughts on the creative process (and who knows- perhaps even a few new pieces of verse or prose, assuming my Muse comes out of hiding; perhaps even some observations from the vantage of a semi-wallflower in the Seattle Gothic community (semi, simply because although i attend some community events and have a handful of friends, there are probably less than two dozen people who'd notice if i simply vanished socially, and perhaps not even that many. No, this is not a plea for attention or an attempt to create drama. As always, this journal strives to be a Drama-Free Zone™).

So i'm contemplating my very own Movable Type installation. I've the packages for v. 2.63 residing on my system now, while debating whether to use the Berkeley DB support (which should be available under my current hosting package through Flying Porcupine), or, waiting until real income returns and upgrading slightly to a package with MySQL support.

In unrelated notes:
I spent some time outside just looking at the plants growing in my garden today in the rain. I'm actually having some success growing plants from seed, which simply amazes me. I'm also stunned at the simple beauty of raindrops on the leaves of the little bits of verdant greenery (is this redundant?) now sprouted all over the once bare patch, and can only imagine what it's going to look like when some of the blooms come out.

Elsewhere, Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto will be making a special appearance at the Seattle Uwajimaya location (600 5th Ave. S) tomorrow from 4-6 pm. While not my favourite Iron Chef- that would be Rukusaburo Michiba, with Hirouki Sakai running a close second- i'm a huge fan of the show, and it'd be neat to be able to go. Anyone else in the area who'd be interested, let me know- since we've the van, it'd be possible to stuff it with people and go together.

So since you're in Seattle

Shall we get together sometime and talk CR and vaguely gothy stuff and other things of that nature?

Could be interesting. Might even be fun. We could compare Celto-Notes or something. See how much black we can wear all at once. Consume mass quantities of something.

I'm not into hockey, but I do believe in the proper application of the Hockey Stick of Justice on occasion.

Oh, definitely!

I've tried organizing some of the local CR people (mainly those who are still Imbas-iles) on occasion for chatter and craic- we seem to make it once a year whether we need to or not.

There also seems to be a high coincidence of people with (or who have had) CR belief structures and the local goth community- there are at least three others on LJ- [livejournal.com profile] morrigan3, [livejournal.com profile] deadrose_black and [livejournal.com profile] wire_mother. Odd, isn't it?

You're considering yourself a Celtic Reconstructionist now? I thought your beliefs were more neo-pagan.

Hmmmm... That gothy connection is interesting. I have to admit that quite a few folks I've run into who are interested in things Celtic are also interested in things goth. I wonder if it has anything to do with all those skulls the Celts worshipped? ;)

When do you think you might like to get together? If your Celto-gothy/Imbas-ile friends would be into it, maybe we could make an evening (afternoon?) of it sometime soon at a cafe or something. I'm also open to having folks come to my place. I have my own house, and a living room that's fairly comfy for maybe 6 or 8 people to sit and talk.

If we want to include other people in this, it may be best to pick a date a month or so off, just to allow it to mesh into as many folks' schedules as possible.

In the past we've done a late lunch sort of thing at Kells' or Fadó downtown, but that's far from a requirement- simply provides a gracious out, preventing a would-be host or hostess from being 'trapped' with visitors for several hours.

I could go for setting a date a month or so from now. I'd kinda like to just get together and chat sooner than that though.

As to having folks at my house for a few hours, I'm fine with that. I actually like company ;) Also, most places that have a bar in them tend to be too smoky for my taste. I'd really prefer to avoid it.

Popped over to the lj's of the three folks you mentioned. I've met [livejournal.com profile] morrigan3 once before. Don't know either of the others that I'm aware of, though their journals seem interesting.

How many CR types do you know in the Seattle area, just out of curiosity?

Aside from those, three others.

Do you like scarves? I want to knit you something. My needles are itching. I don't know what to knit for guys that's non-sweater like. I know some guys who will wear a small bohemian style bag (aka NOT A PURSE). What is your fancy? Scarf? Hat? Bag-not-a-purse? Fluffy, glittery boa?

I even made a pattern for a dildo "cozy" or cover, but I doubt you need one of those.....I could modify it to make a chanter bag...*snicker*. I'd need to know how long your, um, chanter is.

Count one more in that number. I've carried a leather satchel for the past nine years, and had a cool cotton Guatamalan one before that (which unfortunately developed too many holes from wear over the four years i had it).

Oooooo....

I'll have to create something really fun, but I'll leave making the strap until in person so we can fit it to your exact liking.

Colors? If you don't specify, I usually go for natural and neutral tones of ecru, browns, and muted greens or blues.
