Anyone here have any experience with Movable Type? I'm thinking about deploying it and using it to blog writing-related stuff on my site (where i can keep it all in the same mySQL database or whatever) and trying to use that to drive creativity.

On a completely unrelated note: who the hell interviews a potential new hire without having a copy of the candidate's resume at hand? And do i really want to work for someone who can't find the mobile phone number (line four, nice bold type) on mine or will just use the home one to get in contact with me for an interview he rescheduled after blowing one off completely the previous day?

Broke out the bagpipes for a bit today. Sounded particularly horrible, but i haven't played since the fall. Fingers still worked, but the drone reeds need adjusting- the two tenor ones kept cutting out. Need to find some beeswax, too, because the chanter is loose in the stock, but not another thickness of thread worth.

And now for something completely different: i'm not feeling overly social, and haven't really for the last few weeks. If you want to spend some time with me between, say, now and the middle of May, now's the time to make a request for my time. If one of you has a request for a specific social outing or just wants to do something, don't expect to just see me out, leave me a comment or send me e-mail. It's nice having people over occasionally, but we're only running about a 60% rate of people actually making it after making some sort of plans, for whatever the reason. Rescheduling usually isn't a big deal if something has come up, but the courtesy of knowing that you're not going to make it as expediently as possible is appreciated. If you know us well enough to be invited to the house, you know the phone number- is it asking too much to expect a call if you're running really late or having problems or whatever? If you don't have a mobile phone, i'll even reimburse the cost of a call from a pay phone. I know this probably sounds really snippy, but i'm tired, bitchy, frustrated about a lot of things, and having two no-shows in the space of a week does little to restore my faith in humanity at large.

Damn strait. And you are *not* being snippy. It's totally reasonable to expect your friends to value your time and attention. That's something I really like about you guys.. you have good manners and and the grace to call when plans change. Cheers!

Also... DANGER! WILL ROBINSON! That interviewer guy sounds like a flake. I would fear for my paycheck if he's in charge.

Ok.. and totally unrelated.. do you happen know of a client that would download the entire (comments, et all ) contents of my LJ to store at home on the Mac?

Xjournal is my favourite client for posting to LiveJournal and has a History feature that does this, though not in the way that I would prefer to see it done, necessarily. Plus I designed the program's logo :-)

Phoenix is a decent enough client that provides a fair amount of user friendliness in editing past entries, but I'm not sure whether it downloads them or just makes use of the LJkit calendar functions.

And then there used to be a program called Yaxjournal that was relatively crudgy for day to day use, but had a great function for downloading your journal's contents. Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere on the web right at the moment and I no longer have a copy on my computer.

I spoke a bit too soon about YaxJournal. While it is no longer linked to from the appropriate LJ page you can find it here.

Why thank you! That was very kind of you. :)

I've looked before, but not turned up anything. It has been a while tho...

No problem. Part of what makes the Mac community what it is, is being willing to lend a hand and offer help, even if you are not the person being asked for it. So I'm glad my reply was useful :-)

I'm glad Gwynn was in a position to help also, since i have no idea what Mac LJ clients are good and which aren't worth the time to bother with.

I definately appreciate it. The thought of possibly losing my LJ to the ether greatly disturbs me. *always back up your work* :D

It's hard being a Mac user here in MS land. One thing I miss about my hometown is that it's Maccentric. Thanks for making the time and showing the spirit. :)

Um.. if you need help moving in Seattle, I'm good for it. Just ask V&V!

Yeah, I've been backing it up here for safety's sake. I work with computers and the net way too much to think they are reliable or safe.

I can imagine that MS is not the easiest place to hold on to your integrity and soul. All the same, were they to offer me the job that got us moved out to Seattle then I would say thank you very much and not complain one bit (where they could hear me).

In terms of help moving, I'll tell you the same thing I told [livejournal.com profile] heddo98. If you could simply keep your ears and eyes open for anyone who might be needing a web or graphics designer then that would be great. My wife and I both fall into that category and we are both looking for some sort of full-time employment in the Seattle area. Here are links to out portfolio/resume sites:

Me: Aaron G. Peabody
Her: Lauren Halley-Peabody

If you do get wind of anything you can email either of us at these addresses: agpeabody @ halley-peabody . com or lauren @ halley-peabody . com (spaces inserted to annoy spambots)
... or you can call me at this number: 216-256-8987

As for the actual task of moving we'll probably be relying on Vanya to drum up a team of roadies when the time comes, all of whom will most likely be paid in whiskey and pizza.

Oh I've never worked for MS, or in the tech industry. I just live near Seattle. I'll certainly keep my ears open for you all, job wise.

Ah... *grin* ...the traditional moving day compensation! :D

Well I can promise you that in a few months you can count on Lauren and I never standing you guys up or cancelling through inaction.
