I work at what is arguably the world's most influential (for good or evil, you choose which) software company and our frelling (thank you, [livejournal.com profile] lysana) network is regularly up and down throughout the day. WTF?
Add to that that the lab controller which regulates my automation machines keeps rebooting spontaneously, often resulting in the automation run (27 different scenarios, each lasting anywhere from an hour to two hours) starting over, and you have some sort of idea how my day is going.

A friend of mine works as a sysadmin, wrestling your company's products on a daily basis. He would tell you chapter and verse why your company's network's a problem and it'd be all because of the programmers three blocks away from you on campus (so to speak).

...and that we have a rogue DHCP server floating around somewhere, resulting in machines in different locations having the same IP address....

Now if they'd only use a nice stable Unix environment....

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. If the network is constipated and the Exchange server is offline, you're probably no more than one degree of separation from Microsoft
