Had an interesting discussion today with Jerry, who is one of the two people in my wing on this floor who i actually like enough to occasionally engage in conversation, whether relevant or irrelevant.

He made an interesting observation: technologies workers are the modern-day equivalent of coal miners. Thinking about it, he's right. We work in highly stressful environs quite often, under pressures to perform to meet external demands, many of us work in the dark or limited light, almost all in reasonably small spaces, and often with substandard or inadequate equipment. Although some of us are paid comparatively well in comparison with other classes of "wage-slaves," with the general state of the economy and post-dotcom deflation of tech stocks, it's still not enough to be able to raise a family and really prosper.
