Sep. 26th, 2002 06:24 pmFirst off, my apologies to anyone if i were quieter than usual last night at coffee. As some of you know, i was having a significant amount of pain from a broken tooth. Ended up taking medication last night to get to sleep, and i knew the instant it wore off this morning. Ended up taking a trip to the dentist today, and had the tooth extracted- about seventy-five percent of it above the gumline was gone, and there wasn't really much left to save.
I hate going to medical people in general, and most of all dentists- probably dating to an encounter with an oral surgeon at about age seventeen, who stitched the inside of my lip back together after i got a hockey stick in the mouth (word to any kids out there who like hockey and want to play- wear a face shield, even when you're old enough not to have to. Take my word for it- even though shields can be inconvenient, they're more fun than having bits of your mouth stitched back together [even though i do have fond recollections of the surgeon's nurse, because she spent the whole procedure sitting with her lower legs on my shouleder, keeping me from moving my head with her knees. I think her name was Svetlana. *sigh* Ah, to be young again.] Forty-four stitches later, it was all back together, and all that's really visible of it now is a scar inside my lip- although if i shaved my beard, there may still be traces there as well.)
Anyway, a few major doses of ibuprofen and some Vicodan should get me through the next few days reasonably pain-free, if somewhat drugged. Bleh. Not the way i planned to spend Thursday and Friday, but it's better than the pain i was dealing with for the last forty-eight hours.

Date: 2002-09-26 07:54 pm (UTC)And it was probably necessary- i got more local anaesthetic today (i think eight shots) than i did then (i seem to recall four), even though this was one tooth and that was the entire length of my lower gumline from the right incisor back to the second left bicuspid- probably three inches or so of sewing.
You and Lindros both
