ravencallscrowsPacking. Bleh. Boxes an' boxes 'an more boxes. Makes the ordinary chaos around my house look inspired by a feng shui master. Well, not really. It's not really that bad. We're working gradually and have stayed focused on relatively small tasks at a time, rather than trying to tackle entire rooms at once. Small, manageable goals are achievable.
Today: bedroom closet and dresser. All of the clothing i own which isn't on hangers or is likely to be worn in the next week is now in one of four boxes. Down to about a half a closet (the place here has really big closets) of hanging stuff. There's almost, if not more, stuff i'm giving away to some deserving charity (probably the Humane Society thrift shop) than there is in the four boxes or hanging up. If i can't remember the last time i wore it, i don't need to move it, right? Also got a start on cleaning out the computer desk. The two drawers on the right side of the desk are now a box of their own.
Tomorrow: the rest of the desk, the hall (disaster) closet, a start on alexander's room, and a trip to pick up paint and supplies.
Saturday: cleaning and doing minor repairs at the new place.
Sunday: painting etc. Food will be supplied for volunteers (white chili and who knows what else).
Next Saturday: loading stuff up north to reduce the amount to be done on Sunday.
Next Sunday: moving day. Again, food will be supplied for volunteers.
Anyone who's inclined to help out any other time is also welcome to do so- just let someone know when and what, and we'll figure it all out. (Yeah, right. I'll be surprised if we get many volunteers for either weekend- i'm really not expecting anyone to help out midweek). Any trip we make into town we'll be schlepping a car-load.
Hopefully we'll get a cheque from the bureaucrats in Florida soon, and can factor in an Ikea trip with someone with a truck into the week. It'd be nice to be able to kit out the new digs properly and just leave many of the heavy items of "garage-sale decor style" here for the garage sale the following weekend (where things will be pretty much "make an offer" or "haul it off if you want it.") As it is, the present computer desk and entertainment centre are extremely unlikely to make the trip- both are in less than optimal condition.
