Well, today should have been the day. We were expecting our tax refund money to have been directly deposited in the bank today- should be somewhere in the vicinity of $5850. Well, called the bank. They did indeed get an electronic deposit. There's just one problem- what was deposited was $350, or $5500 less than we're expecting. Since this is the money for the deposits on our new place, among other things, i'm in an absolute state of panic at the moment.

We called the bank this morning (to confirm the deposit) and found out the amount was other than we expected. After much time spent on the phone, wingedelf determined that the full amount WAS credited to us, but that Florida took about $5500 of it - BUT according to Washington we have ALL the back child support paid off!!! ACK! AND, of course, Florida only accepts calls from 9-Noon Eastern time! So, we are on hold until Monday morning. Breathing - a lot. Good thoughts are appreciated. *hug*

Just to clarify, for those who don't know the situation:
I'm not a deadbeat dad. When i moved out here, my support payments were set at a certain amount. Several jobs later, when i was making significantly more money than originally, the support amount was changed. Unfortunately, they changed it retroactively- and increased the amount by (if i recall correctly) about $400 a month. Work that over a period of about two and a half years, and it works out to about $12,000, which they've been taking directly out of my paycheques (and any other form of windfall, like tax refunds) ever since. Finally, after several years of this, according to Washington state support enforcement it's all caught up and current as of 1 August- in fact they even sent me a cheque for an overpayment because they didn't get the change processed in time.
Unfortunately, it'd seem that Florida either hasn't credited it in their bookkeeping, or filed a lien against it right after they took last year's refund, because the amount they've now (at least temporarily) stolen from me is about equivalent to a year's worth of payments on the retroactive amount.
So, now Monday i get to get up bright and early to be able to call them during the period where the people who handle out-of-state support orders are actually taking calls in their office, and try to figure out what needs to be done to get our $5,500 back, and how long it's going to take. I'm ready to f*cking rip the heads off of bureaucrats.
