Jul. 31st, 2002 03:38 pmWell, it's official. Whether my boss approves or not, i'm taking time off. I'm officially not clinically depressed, even. According to my doctor, i'm clinically exhausted. It was interesting. One of the questions he asked was "Do you know anything about burnout?" So i told him i'd done a bit of research on the internet about burnout, but wasn't sure that what was posted was formal clinical definitions, and that as someone outside the medical profession, i don't consider myself qualified to diagnose things, but that from all the descriptions i'd seen i looked like a likely choice to audition to be the poster child for Stage Four. He laughed at that, and then told me that he wished more of his patients would refrain from self-diagnosis and then disagree with him when he told them otherwise.
So, we're going to re-evaluate things in three weeks and see where things stand then. I told him that i wasn't positive i wanted to go back, but would take the time to pull things together and figure them out. So, if my friend Jon can get me transferred to the team he's heading, i can get cleared to go back in a few weeks. If he can't, i'm likely going to try to take all twelve and work on finding something else during them.
Meanwhile, i've got three weeks of medically-indicated time off, so i'm open to do things with people if anyone has the inclination...
