Just back from the Skagit Valley Highland Games. No, for those of you who'd ask, i didn't dress 'specially for it. There are usually more SCAdians we know there than anything else (including Duncan, who sends his regards to Captain Staxxy, since he hasn't seen her in _*ages*_ [sorry, but Duncan's inflections don't translate well into orthography, but if you know him, you'll know how this was delivered]), so it'd have to have been the great-kilt, but i just couldn't see throwing it today- it's been a while since i've done so, which'd mean it'd probably have taken the better part of 30-45 minutes. I've already promised to wear it to the Enumclaw games, though.
Got into an interesting discussion about shuttle pipes with Angus MacDonald, who's the owner of The Tartan and Thistle in Langely, which is a great place for bagpipers to get supplies, primarily because Angus loves to talk at length, and it's easy to learn scads by just listening to him talk techniques and why he advises certain items for different classes of player. He'll also get- if he doesn't have on hand- any sort of pipes imaginable, from child's toy pipes (ranging from around $15.00) to full mounted silver and blackwood Great Highland bagpipes or a full set of Uilleans (ranging up to or in excess of $15,000). Even got to see one of those high-end sets- Angus had his set- personally made for his grandfather- Dunbar GHBs, fully mounted with silver and (real) ivory- they're over a hundred years old. Angus has turned down offers as high as $25,000 cash for them.
Also saw Maggie's Fury (formerly The Furies) again- alexander and i had seen them at the street fair in Mt. Vernon during the Tulip Festival. I was surprised that Roxanne and Terry remembered me- but had to share the news about the GBS/7N/Young Dubliners show coming up next month, which they hadn't heard about yet. Anyway, since their stuff is in the same general vein, they're planning on taking the whole band and families. We may end up with quite the passel o' folks yet. Will have to see if Ticketmaster does group discounts!

Send him my love. :D

If i were to give Duncan big smoochies, they'd be sure to issue him his blue feather....

I did mention that i saw you on an almost weekly basis, and shall deliver the reciprocal portion thereof when next we meet.
