For some inexplicable reason, i needed to write today, and not along any of the ordinary lines. Perhaps it's because it's summer, and so many people i know are beset by the temperatures.
Anyway, this is a bit about the Zorya, three divine sisters of Slavic legend- Zvezda Vyechernnaya, Zorya Poluchnnaya, and Zvezda Dennitsa (or Utrennaya).

The Night Heavens

Crisp and clear, winter breaks. Moonrise reflects blue light on fresh snowfall. The Star of Evening shines bright on Her path. Casting diamond sparkles against the black velvet of the skies Cascading all along the bare upraised arms of the forests of birch. Passing Her vigil to Her sister, the Zenith of Midnight, She goes. Silence falls, dark and heavy, A felt blanket under which few dare stir, Midnight majestic in Her solitude Crisp and cold, a faint tinkle, as of fairie bells, carries on the wind, Ice crystals forming, gracing the land with their delicate lace. Midnight yields in turn to Her third sister, the Star of the Dawn, to return again in Her time. Awakening returns to the land, as the skies are transformed Blacks of velvet give way to satiny violets, reds and pinks, As the glittering solitaire adorning the heavens Is the beauty of the Star of the Dawn, Bringing the forthcoming promise of a new day, and preserved safety through the night.

I should probably rework this in Russian. It's got a bit too Slavic a feel to it to really work properly in English, but perhaps it'll help some of you think cool thoughts.

Probably Osip Mandalshtam. While in University i also had a piece or two compared to Anna Akhmatova, and took the comparisons to both as high compliments.

I'm copying it into a *paper* journal because it's something I want to remember. Don't worry, I'll give you credit.

I'm not familiar with the legend, but wow.

For what it's worth, I concentrated in poetry within the English major. That's all. :)

Double major here. B.A. in English (Literature/Composition) and History; many moons ago.

Within the concentration I just focused upon analysis, since I couldn't get into the writing classes. :) Which meant I had to read "The Waste Land" 3 times. I really do appreciate it more now. Maybe that took time.
