I'm glad manager feedback forms are anonymous. I know my boss wouldn't like what i had to say about him. It's not my fault that he doesn't know how to lead a test team, or that he's either the Invisible Man or a horrible micromanager. I can't think of a single time when he's had a piece of advice that wasn't either trite or common sense to give, or one when he's shown any sort of interest in really finding out how i feel about my job or suggesting things which may make me more useful.
Yes, i understand the concept is for employees to drive their own development, but there have been times when i've asked if class a or class b would be more beneficial, and gotten either no response or a completely blase non-committal one.
Damnit, why couldn't that job with EA have been in Seattle instead of Orange County, California? I don't want to go to California. I like it here in Washington.
It's time to look for a new job.

And now for something totally different:
Coffee last night was nice. Rather less crowded than usual- i guess people are on vacation or were at the baseball game. It was nice to be able to actually talk to people. Spent most of the evening doing so with [livejournal.com profile] revseandoe and [livejournal.com profile] sarmonster and Sarah's friend Heather (don't think she's succumbed to the addiction that is LJ yet); and other people drifted in and out in tidal flow. Left late, found that the freeway ramp onto I-5 at Olive was closed, and in its infinite wisdom, WSDOT managed to set up a detour which went around the block back to the same closed on-ramp. WTF?!? Ended up going all the way up Olive to 23rd, then across Montlake and back to the freeway from there. Yes, all you Seattleites, i know i could have just gone up to Roanoke, or taken one of several other ways back, but this one worked just fine, and fit my mood, which was pretty contemplative at the time.

Is the rule that openings have to be held internal only for n days before they're open to anyone? All the things which looked as if i had remotely the proper skill set to do were all listed as internal-only when last i looked. Should I send you my resume anyway?

Honestly, I'm not really sure. There's not much I can really do with your resume myself. It's kind of wierd how they hire here. One thing you may want to think about is try looking for a job that is lower than what you are looking for instead. I know the place that I started out has an opening. Try looking for Production Operations or Operations Technician in Bothell.

I've never tried it, but you may want to see if you can apply for the internal positions anyways. You never know...

Any rough idea what the paygrade is for either of those? As is, I can't afford to take too much of a pay hit, which tends to eliminate most of the typically entry-grade sorts of jobs. Then again, having over five years in the software industry, including over a year as a test lead sorta does that too.
It sucks having my skill set. I don't have enough skills to get most advanced positions, but i'm hopelessly overqualified for most lower level ones.

I started in Prod Ops for around 18 an hour not including shift differential. It's also 4 10's for most of the shifts as well.

What are the medical/dental/vision benefits like? :D

Absurdly wonderful if you believe that. Full medical, full dental, and vision. Hell, we get benefits with certain other companies as well just for working here.

Also, if he gets a job here and can find a vanpool that is reasonable times for his position, ATT Wireless will pay for the cost of using it. I just started up the vanpool this week and have already saved like 20 dollars in gas, let alone wear and tear.

Hmmm. That sounds like a bit more of a pay cut than i'm likely to be able to afford. Looking at my most recent pay-stub (which arrived today), i'm getting paid salary amounting to about $27 and change (assuming 40 hour weeks) presently (which is a lot more than the $22 or so i thought it was, but hadn't ever bothered to check on).

Suprise! I DO have LJ....
Not that I keep it terribly up to date or have anything interesting to say....
I've already added you to my friends list.
Had a good time at coffee the other night. Quite an entertaining group!
Hope to run into y'all again soon. Take care.

Y'all?!?

Ain't no need fur that, l'il lady. We ain't in th' Sauwth, hea-yuh. :-)
Eeek! I just scared myself. The product of going to university in Virginia and then spending eight years living and working in southwest Florida, I suppose. (Well, that and a boss I had back there and i had this little running gag where we mocked Suthurners at times)

Anyway, we're pretty predictable- Aurifice on Wednesday nights, almost without fail. I manage to get in to th' big city just about every other weekend to the Mercury, but most of the seagothim (using what's become the default form, with the Hebrew style pluralization) can be found at the Merc or the Vogue on weekends. Course, since you know Sarah, you probably know all about this, but it lets me fulfil my role as purveyor of useless or redundant information.

Hope to see you again! Smart, funny people are always welcome.

See? imsosquare FITS.

I think I'm the most boring person ever. Seems like everyone I meet these days has lived in all of these cool places (not that Washington's not cool, but I'm talking about all over the country, all over the world).

Fridays I try to get out to Capitol Hill, mostly the Merc and the Vogue with Chris & Sarah and a few others. I prefer going out on Saturdays (80s night at the Vogue!), but rarely can talk my friends into it. Going out tonight. Maybe I'll run into you there.

Coffee was fun. Look forward to going again soon. Might be a chore with my new job starting, but as with most things worth having, a little sacrifice is necessary (sleep).
