Sep. 16th, 2006 08:19 pmToday has been pretty darn interesting. The eldest's hockey tryouts- all i can say is 'Wow.' He really surprised me when playing against kids his experience level. They broke the session into four teams worth of kids, and did some skating drills but spent most of the time in scrimmage games in the thirds.
darkmuffin had at least a goal and two assists (not that that's saying a huge amount), but he was in most every battle for a loose puck anywhere in his vicinity, and when there was a loose puck away from him, he was going to the front of the net. I think that, despite the preferences he's voiced in the past, they might try making the kid a winger after all. I was really, really impressed. Tomorrow, team assignments are made, and they've got evaluation part two- at seven in the morning.
After that was done, we did some kicking about- picked up a nice new fountain pen for
damashita, got a converter for my Lamy Vista Safari, got two bottles of ink (one purple, one green).
Also picked up the PC version of EA Sports NHL 07. Oddly, I can't get it to install on the desktop machine- it won't show the EULA, and insists that DirectX 9.0 or higher must be installed. DirectX 9.0c is installed, though, so i'm not quite sure what its commotion is. It installed without hesitation on the laptop, though. Oh, sweet addiction! Just put a few minutes into it, and can see losing large chunks of time to it already.
We've been eligible for upgrading our mobile phones for a bit, and had talked about doing so- and by the fourth stop, had new phones (Nokia 6102is). They're Bluetooth-capable, have built in cameras, etc. Right now, i'm diggin' on the capability to use MP3s as ringtones- and, since the laptop is also Bluetooth enabled, can pull the music library from the desktop, squish the files down a bit, and transfer them to the phone. For the next day or two, until i decide what i want to use long-term, my phone will ring with Great Big Sea's "Little Beggarman."
Edit, 8:31 PDT: Even sampled down, that was a big file, so i've changed it. The ring is now the theme to "Hockey Night in Canada."
