Apr. 25th, 2002 12:10 amJust got back in from the Great Big Sea show.
For those of you who aren't familiar with GBS, they're a Celtic-tinged folk-rock quintet from Newfoundland. I can't really describe accurately the feel of a GBS show except to say picture what you'd get as the offspring of an illegitimate coupling of a ceilidh and a rave, and you're probably in the ballpark. If you haven't heard their stuff and would like to, let me know and i'll manage to sample some mp3s for you. Oh, yeah- in addition to the traditional tunes they did, and the original ones, one of my personal highlights from the show was during their encore- when they covered the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated." Classic!
Danced and sang a lot during the show. Even got hit on in the most unsubtle way possible by a blonde woman who wasn't either particularly attractive or unattractive, who then turned to
damashita, asked her if she was my wife, hugged her, and took off to points unknown. Very strange.
After the show, we adjourned to the Aurifice for the tail end of Goth coffee. Committed a social gaffe- someone said that i looked familiar, and i drew a complete and total blank, and realized about ten minutes later that "you look familiar" equalled "hi. Who are you, anyway?" and that the reason i look familiar is that i post on the discussion board, and use a personal picture that's my self-portrait. DOH! If the woman who asked just happens to be one of my readers, all i can say is i'm sorry- i'm a total dolt.
Anyway, enough for the moment. Must get to bed.

Date: 2002-04-25 10:07 am (UTC)Yeah, big social gaffe. I'm friggin' clueless sometimes.
Yeah, I went again. I figure it'd be hard to have less of a social life than i do- i mean, who do I hang out with besides my family and you? Meeting people and forcing myself to socialize is theraputic, and it keeps me from being assimilated into the vast mass of humanity here at MS who seem to live to work. *shudder*
