Mar. 16th, 2002 10:15 pmWent out drinking and carousing last night with revseandoe, who's been a buddy for nearly five years now- he and i were in the same training class when we started in the tech industry, the same workgroup when we were supporting Windows 95 and IE 4; worked together at Humongous/Cavedog; he was the officiant at our wedding; and we still get together every once in a while.
Anyway, there were a bunch of people who were going to be hanging out- a bunch of his friends, and there was a pretty good chance that we'd run into some other people we knew- JeanG the most likely candidate. Christine was tentatively going to join us as well, but wasn't in on the getting hammered and crashing in the U District at the good reverend's place.
Anyway, as far as connexions go, ours didn't. We heard that Jean was at the Vogue from a friend of hers, but by the time we got there, she was gone; Christine didn't connect with us at all, getting to the Bad Juju at about 12:30, about the same time we were arriving at the Vogue, right next door. Anyway, we got thoroughly plowed bouncing from the Juju to the Mercury, then the Vogue, back to the Merc to try to find Jason M. (who'd also gone down with us), since he vanished on us there- we weren't sure if he'd just left, if he hooked up with someone or what, but one minute he was around, the next we couldn't find him anywhere. Caught a cab back to the apartment and crashed hard.
Didn't sleep particularly well, woke up feeling pretty sick but no headache- i've officially become a lightweight- and didn't get feeling a lot better most of the day. Hung out for a while longer- went down to Xanadu to check out comics and collectibles (They have a really cool limited edition Death statuette based on one of Chris Bachalo's drawings of her, but way too pricey at $125, and some cool Sandman t-shirts which are priced a lot more reasonably). Finally headed home about 2ish, and realized that the whole thing was really palliative- i felt so much less stressed and not wound as tightly as the mainspring on a $5 mechanical watch. Took a shower and a little nap, then went for a walk over at the mall. Anyway, Christine wants to be included definitely the next time we plan an outing like this, and i'll probably stay competent to drive, just because i don't need the intoxication and can have fun even without it.
Anyway, i think the "new friends or cool grown-ups" question has been answered in the more favourable direction- Christine has the day off tomorrow until she has the monthly meeting with her staff at 7, and said she'd plan to drop by and hang out before it.
Anyway, beannachtam na Femle Padraig (roughly, blessings on St. Patrick's Day in Irish) for those of you who decide that national identity or just an opportunity to get toasted in more ways than one is reason enough to commemorate the Englishman who's largely responsible for the destruction of a significant portion of native Irish culture (unlike his counterparts Sts. Columba and Ninian in Scotland, who had their monks transcribe the old legends and ways, and who provide most of what is known of pre-Christian Gaelic lore).
Most of all, my thanks to Damashita for both allowing and encouraging me to get out. I love you, hunny-bunny! :-)
