The joys of auditory synchronicity!

As has been mentioned here before, [livejournal.com profile] damashita is a fan of the show Charmed. I rarely pay any attention to it at all- not particularly my cuppa tea. Tonight, i caught the opening theme, and it set off a little chain in my head. I knew the song sounded familiar- it's called "How Soon Is Now," and is performed by a band called Love Spit Love, which seem largely unremarkable as a whole, but individually include the original lead vocalist of The Psychedelic Furs.

But i knew i'd heard the song before. At least once. It seemed that male vocals belonged to it, but i also heard a female voice, and knew i had the latter kicking around in mp3 form somewhere, so i went looking around for it.

Turns out the original was a song by The Smiths, which explains the male voice, and that the version i have is from one of [livejournal.com profile] skyewolf1's favourite bands,

Lena and Yulia,
TaTy (official Russian website) or (English version).

I'm past amused now. Cute little Russian lesbians, and for once, in a completely work-safe manner.

*koff* it's TaTu *koff koff*

ahem. Nothing to see here folks. move along.

:)

I have always loved the Smiths. I remember when they broke up and stuff right after Strangeways came out. How Soon is Now is a good song. Not my favorite by them, but a damn fine song for all that.

Not in Russian. ;-)
It is indeed Тату in Russian- which'd transliterate to Tatu in Latin characters. But hey, they're little Russian grrrls, right? ;-)

I am not part of their logic train, just a reporter for the details. The funny part was that I had the cd that song is on sitting in front of me when I saw your post. ;)

They call themselves T.A.T.U. here, and their videos caused a shitload of trouble for all the hot schoolgirl-on-schoolgirl action :) And on a "family" program like Top of the Pops, nonetheless! Yes, they can show Kylie's tits and ass being shaken, but russian lesbians dressed in british schoolgirl uniforms kissing is too much :P

I haven't heard the Smiths' original, I'm not much of a Smiths fan (except Bigmouth and maybe a couple more songs) but I like the LSL version. Not so strangely enough, it is part of "The Craft" OST, and I remember at least one Charmed review somewhere mentioning that the song should be made the unofficial witches' anthem.

If either Vanessa or you were interested in a "sample" of it *cough* *cough* please let me know, I'll be happy to provide it :)

"Lolitas? Why do you call them fuckin' Lolitas?"

;D

I got the Love Spit Love album when it first came out my sophomore year of high school.

I think I would still like them nowadays.

"Goodbye,
lay the blame on love..."

Or maybe not.

Ah, mademoiselle Nabokov, so good to hear from you. ;-)

LSL is something other than unremarkable? Guess i'll have to venture out of my batcave and see if i can find some of their other stuff.

Really, though, just any excuse to use "cute Russian lesbians" and "completely work-safe" together without forcing the context was worth the, oh, five or six minutes it took to find the song- initial thought was it might have been Björk.
