Today, i managed to do something i will never manage to do again. Two laps at Green Lake. The first, fourteen minutes, forty-eight and five hundred forty-five thousands of a second. The second, as per the stopwatch on my iPod, the exact same 14' 48.545". Three minutes, 17.45 seconds per kilometre; five minutes 17.33 seconds per mile.
There are a couple of other things which make this unlikely event even more worth mentioning- on the first circuit i slowed up a bit to wave to my friend Sonya (who is LJ-less, but maintains a real blog); and on the second, i chased down a sprinter (there's a guy who is there every time i go, who usually blows past me and opens big gaps quickly. He's not consistent- he seems to stop to take breaks every mile or so, which just means he blows by me four or five times during my two orbits, but today, on the uphill grade approaching the bathhouse, i closed about thirty metres over the length of the hill and caught him just before the top- and less than a hundred metres from the end of my skate.).
