I swear, if there's such a thing as past lives, i think i was a stereotypical Mountie in one of 'em.

As predicted, it was a work snow-day. The roads are still icy, at least here, with temperatures around -2. [livejournal.com profile] darkmuffin and i walked down to the grocery store- about, oh, 250 metres away- to pick up lunch stuff. There's a very incline there. On the way down, we watched an old man in a Cadillac slide backwards down the hill in fits and starts, but he'd figured out on his own how to gain traction before we got walk lights. On the way back, we watched a lady in a little four wheel drive pickup start sliding down the same little incline and almost take out an unwitting pedestrian ten metres away.

"You look as if you could use a bit of a hand, ma'am."
*nod* from within the truck. I push slightly on the back end of the truck and help her get purchase.
"The trick to it, ma'am, is to try to keep a steady speed. If you get stopped at a light, accelerate very slowly, because slow will get you up the hill. If you try to give it too much, your tires will lose traction and you'll slide."
She takes off, we walk up to the corner- and watch her start spinning her wheels again- and i go back to help again.
"Y'know, I just live around the corner up there. I think I'm going to just go home and call it a day."
"Well, ma'am, you be careful getting there, ok?"

It wasn't until we got home that i realized that i had my pants tucked into my boots (milspec, black, and usually within a passing approximation of passing inspection), overcoat over hooded sweatshirt over regular shirt- and on the way out of the house, realizing that wearing a hat was probably a good idea, but not being able to find mine, i'd grabbed [livejournal.com profile] scootercomputer's Team Canada cap from last year's world junior championships in Vancouver, complete with maple leaf insignia...

Now to find Brendan Frasier movies on DVD and muck about the house or something. Maybe Men With Brooms, or i could finish burning Hockey: A People's History to DVD from the TiVo (which reminds me- anyone interested in a series of these? If you don't mind the commercials from CBUT and will cover media and shipping costs [if applicable], i'll burn you a set as well, and they'll be cheaper than buying them from CBC.)
