Last night's outing ended up being postponed to tonight, and rather than the Grind, we went to see Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont at the Crest. Very touching show, and recommended, even for non-film aficionados like me.

And now for something completely different:
My i18nc layer localising chunks of the S2 core into Gàidhlig is finally available to be used. As a result, i was able to pull the loc bits out of a seperate user layer overlaid onto the Component style- and in so doing, i managed to fix an annoyance- the accented characters were displaying properly on my entries, but were broken on my friends' page for no apparent reason. Now they're correct in both places. Still no idea why they were broken in the first place, though.

I'm sitting, watching the Sweden — Trinidad & Tobago opening round match of the World Cup. About a half-hour ago, one of the players from T&T (Trinidadians? Tobagonists?) had the ball with his back to goal, closely marked by a Swedish defender three or four strides outside the box. While trying to turn on the ball, he reached out, grabbed the Swede's jersey and threw himself on the ground. This prompted the following from the play-by-play guy:
"Oh! Look at that. Definitely should be a penalty shot or at least a yellow card."

No, dumbass. Outside the penalty area, it'd never be a penalty shot. If a card were going to be issued, it'd have gone against the attacking player for diving, but since he was just trying to game it slightly, play on.

How does the US ever figure it'll be taken really seriously on a national level in the Fußball world when the country can't even find television commentators who know the game?

I can understand people electing to be childfree. Parenting definitely isn't for everyone. I can understand electing not to interact with kids in an on-going basis. Making a blanket announcement that you're not open to interacting with a family with children on a short-term basis, though, sends a bit of a message that you're not that interested in spending time with [livejournal.com profile] damashita and me, because our boys are a part of who we are. We are very consious of our childfree friends and do our best to not impose our children upon them and make a definite point of finding childcare for events that are not child friendly. We enjoy our adults only time with our friends— as any parent can appreciate childfree time is delightful. But, it is a rarity. Our children are an active part of our lives and for the most part we arrange our lives to cultivate this next generation we are entrusted to raise - both as spiritual and social beings. Although it's often possible to arrange someone to keep an eye on them for a period of time, it's decidedly inconvenient for us to have to do so, and reduces the likelyhood that we're going to go out of our way to make the attempt, at least for people who aren't willing to make the effort to meet us halfway.
