Well, [livejournal.com profile] miss_bordeaux is now mrs_bordeaux. ;-)

As of about 3:30 this afternoon, it was all over but the consummation, and, well, if anyone who knows either the bride or the groom thinks that they've been saving themselves for this, well, hey, i've got this really nice bridge about a mile from my house on which i'll make you a really good deal. *laughs*

All in all, it went well. Some little things were, well, a bit off, but it's performance art and i didn't mess up any of my parts. Oh— and the maid of honour rocked my world (on a strictly 'hey, this is one of the coolest people i've gotten to hang out with in a while' sense) and i'm hoping to officiate when she and her wife get legally married.

I should have remembered who the bride was last night when she called to ask what time she should be there and told her 12:30 instead of 1:30. As it turned out, she arrived at about 1:55— perfect time for a 2:00 wedding, right?

So, instead of doing an on-site walk-through, i just told the bridal party what they needed to do and figured that they'd be able to pull it off. Things like "I'll talk for a bit about the importance of families and friends in building the bonds of a relationship are, and then the string quartet will play. At that point, [reasonably male-attired bridesmaid] should walk in with [female-attired bridesmaid] to her left- come down the steps, turn and come down the centre aisle and go off to each side. When that happens, the quartet will switch music, and that's your cue [maid of honour] and [best man]." The photographer was right there at this time, because he needed to know where to position himself, and, well, keeping the folks who are actively working in the wedding on the same page is a good idea.

I must have been speaking Canadian or something, because in practice, that translated into bridesmaids entering together, but on the opposite sides of where they should have been; maid of honour and best man about five steps behind them; and the bride and her mother at the altar before the quartet has started playing her song. So, with the bride and groom in front of me, they played the processional, and the wedding party waited (because i did) for the for the string players to finish.

Oh- and why did the bridesmaids enter together, you ask? Well, it wasn't until twenty after two that i discovered that there were three female attendants and one male one, so to keep things visually balanced, we did a little juggling.

So, a little seat of the pants ad libbing to finagle things into working properly, a few places where i went extemporaneously off the script to round it out just a bit more and fifteen minutes later, they were married in every way except for the signatures on the license. People seemed to like it- one of the members of the quartet went as far as to comment that it was a really nice blend, with enough traditional elements that someone expecting a traditional service would feel at place, while remaining completely secular.

Weddings are fun to do.
