May. 1st, 2005 07:11 pmWell, the festivities are over for another year.
Since you all got the details of the pre-escape suckage, you get some of the details of the outing itself.
damashita's mom arrived and we got out of the house a little earlier than expected, so we headed out to verify that we knew how to get to the hotel. Upon finding it, we were still about three-quarters of an hour early to check in, so we headed down toward Capitol Hill proper and nosed around in Edge of the Circle and Toys in Babeland.
Then it was time to check in. We found on-street parking-free, even- and thereby saved what seemed like exorbitant rates at the hotal ($26 to park my car, when there's a $12/day lot just across the street? WTF?). The room itself was nice, on the sixth floor of the Hotel Sorrento. We settled in, kicked back a piece, and just unwound a bit.
Then off for dinner. We walked to Julia's on Broadway- a nice 20-minute or so walk on a lovely Seattle evening and had a nice dinner and listened to the piano-vocal duo performing there. After dinner, we went across the street to the Underground and prowled around their collection of toys and accoutrements for, um, darker adult play. Afterwards, we decided to go see a movie, and wandered toward the cinema at Pacific Place.
Along the way, we stopped in Musicwerks, and were entertained by a found-materials artist who declared us common-law street people (he was hugely amusing, and hopefully the little bit of money we gve him will help him make a transition to a better life), and made it to the cinema in time to get passable seats for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which was amusing and something of an improvement from the old BBC series.
The walk back seemed to take longer than the whole of the walk there- and it was uphill most of the way. Arriving back at the hotel, it was time for a bath/shower and bed. The bathroom was, well, unremarkable, but the bed made up for it. Taking advantage of not having little human alarm clocks, we slept in a bit and took our time getting on with the day, and headed off for a late breakfast.
Today, after reclaiming the children, we set about the standard Sunday routine, picking up something of an anniversary present for
damashita from our friends at Sabando Design- lapis and silver earrings at the Fremont Market, and then headed to Ballard and exchanged Bealtaine pleasantries and the like with some of the regular vendors (and were gifted with cinammon rolls from one of them- yum!)
