Today's plans were fairly freestyle. We'd planned to go renew our AquaZoo membership, and figured we'd kick about there, so had floated a few tentative invites- and ended up meeting neighbours [livejournal.com profile] gwynn_aaron and [livejournal.com profile] ithilien

We elected to take another step up in membership from our last one- this time we went for the "Elephant Herd" one- rather than just being a standard family membership with a set number of guest passes and half-price guest admissions, this also includes a free guest admission every time we go and choose to exercise it- which seemed to be a worthwhile thing to have for the additional cost, especially since we generally try dragging willing victims along. It also has the Aquarium add-in, so we can take people there as well- and again, frequently have. It also opens up the possibility that if one or both of us were to find ourselves dating someone that she'd be welcome to come along to either place as well if the desire struck. ;-)

Anyway, we managed to see the first raptor show in six months— peregrine falcons are simply amazing to watch in flight— (this show is something we try to never miss when we go), and to see a number of the usual favourites as well, like the snow leopards (i took this icon picture at the zoo about two years back- the one pictured is Nicolas, who wasn't out today, although his mate Alaxandra was). Missed the baaaaaaby Bengal tigers, though. The panther was asleep, as were the black bears and both adult lions. Guess it was a good day for napping.

While we were there- looking at the river otters, we happened to see Shawna and Tracy and their daughter Magdelena- who have been friends since we lived up in Skagit County- and whom we seem to just happen to accidentally (if not intentionally) encounter every time they venture down from the outskirts of LaConner to the city- we have run into them the last two times they just on the spur of the moment decided to make a day trip down. It's just way too freaking small a world when things like that happen.

It's so cute to watch Alexander and Maggie together. They almost acted as if they were dating- a pretty remarkable thing for two little kids who aren't quite seven.

Oh- and today's post brought two $50 Visa gift cards- the manufacturer's rebate on the mobile phones we picked up free a few months ago. I'm debating whether to do something frivoulous with them, or put them toward maille supplies since the amount required for corsetry isn't going to be cheap, even going with less expensive (and lighter) materials like aluminum.

The opening of the Tarot-inspired exhibit at WingNut Galleries had looked really tempting earlier in the day, but i think i'm going to opt to stay in for a night of snuggles instead.
