damashita expressing an interest in maille has got me thinking a bit about how to properly fit metal fabric on, well, figures with curves. It's not really an issue for the males of the species- we tend to be fairly rectangular with only minor variants from shoulders to waist to hips, and we're not particularly busty either. Ladies, however, are a completely different matter, and to get something which fits properly over the bust but which isn't just draping from there requires a novel solution.
I think, though, that i've got it. Rather than making the body of the garment essentially one solid tube, the back needs to be adjustible. Which triggers the solution, both from a functional and fashion vantage point— corsetry. Granted, we're not going to be talking corsets in the Meschantes sense of the word, nor does it need to be as restrictive as a proper corset, but by either leaving the back or sides open and closing with lacing, it'll allow for the piece to be fitted and look attractive in the process.
