It's still a shock to the system.
What's just as bad is the conflicting feelings of revulsion about what the US government has just committed the military forces of the country and the almost irrepressible urge to watch as much of the news coverage as humanly possible. It's somewhat akin to picking up something really amazingly hot, and, finding that once you have done so it's nearly impossible to put down, even though you know it's doing damage to your being.
My prayers that this is quick to end, and is as bloodless as possible. No civilian deserves to be another "collateral casualty" statistic.
