Jan. 2nd, 2003 11:29 pmHow many police officers does it take to arrest someone?
If it was outside the Washington Mutual at 4th and Union this afternoon, apparently the answer is lots, and with weapons drawn. Seattle Police and King County Sheriff deputies both. Don't know what the guy did, but he got pulled over by a motorcycle patrolman who approached the vehicle at gunpoint. Shortly afterwards at least a half dozen other units arrived with lights and sirens going. Looked as if the officer took a gun from the arrestee, but can't be absolutely certain of that.
Had a nice walk to and around the Market with
mediavore. And the rain held off long enough that we didn't get soaked, either.
Update: Apparently there were incidents where someone tried to rob a few area banks by calling in threats to detonate bombs placed nearby unless cash was delivered. The Seattle Times links two attempted bank robberies this way (although not the one in question), which may explain some of the massive police presence.
