This somehow makes these devices considerably less compelling.

Meanwhile, we sit at work and wait for a new build. Initial impressions are that the developers are somewhat sloppy checking in, or the build process itself is fucked. I'd bet on the latter. We really need someone to do that job- and, as chance has it, currently have an opening for just such a being. Check

Date: 2003-11-24 03:35 pm (UTC)Maybe I should look at a Zen instead, though they don't run on standard batteries either. But honestly, who would want to have a 18 months old electronic device? CONSUME!!!
(says she who is still using the same personal CD Player she was using in 1999)

Date: 2003-11-24 06:05 pm (UTC)I don't have a problem with the iPods themselves, they are a lovely piece of electronics. I wouldn't have a problem with them lasting a certain amount of time, as electronics normally do. But if (notice the conditional) the information that changing a battery was as much as quoted, effectively forcing you to throw it away and get a newer one, and when a new battery procured through other means was a quarter of that price, I would have a problem with that, as it feel unnecessarily wasteful. The new battery replacement policy seems a lot better, though it's still around 1/3 of the price of the product and still not available for the newer models yet. Sadly it isn't available in Europe either.
Just my 2c.
