The better team clearly won this series.

That being said, Roman Cechmanek deserves full marks for keeping the Flyers within striking range for much of this series and for stealing a pair of games for the boys from Broad Street.

The Ottawa Senators, winners of the President's Trophy as the best team during the regular season won their first round matchup with the New York Islanders to earn the right to face the Philadelphia Flyers, who advanced by beating the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The first four games of this series were well-fought, with the teams splitting the first four, each team capturing a victory in the other's building. Then it all changed, and the League's best- the Senators- flexed the muscle which earned them the top ranking overall, dominating the fifth game en route to a 5-2 victory, and sealing their right to advance to play the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference Finals with a 5-1 win today.

The Flyers did well in this series playing with a lead- in the first four games they outscored the Sens 5-0 in the first period of the first four games of the series. They did less well playing catch-up- outscored 4-1 in the first period of games five and six.

Special teams play has been key for the Senators in the playoffs so far- Ottawa has only allowed three goals against in forty-seven times short-handed, and none in seventeen powerplay opportunities for the Flyers. In the series, the Senators capitalized five times on the powerplay themselves in twenty-one times with the man advantage.

Senators goaltender Martin Lalime was sparkling in goal, yielding only ten goals to the Flyers and never more than two a game. On the offensive front, six Ottawa players have tallied six or more points in the playoffs, tied with Vancouver for best in the league.

The Sens are to the Flyers, what the Buds are to the Sens.

At least they took out Toronto in the first round. That's something.

The Flyers scored more against Lalime this year than they did last. Then again, he shut them out four times in the five games last year....

Ottawa-New Jersey. Da-yum. That's going to be a helluva series to watch.

I picked a good night to wear my Minnesota shirt. The jersey is still hanging up - doesn't look like I'll need it for luck.

I played in a tourney with my new team this weekend - we already set up a rivalry for the regular season. What's funny is their dirtiest players weren't that good in the skill department, and when confronted they'd skate away. Turns out they're PMs @ MS anyway, so you know they're dumbasses. One guy I'm absolutely going to destroy when we play them. He tried to play the body and it didn't work out to his advantage. I'm going to make him cry, I think.

God, love that testosterone overload :)

Good. Kill a PM, create headcount. May be the only way to get a job in this economy.

My bad. The one is a big-wig QA manager. One of his SDE/Ts can move up and you can have his spot. I suspect that if he tries to be a punk in our next matchup, there will be an open spot.
