Fence. Check.
Jasmine planted along fence. Check.
Ivy transplanted from the side of the house to a little corner of the fence and encouraged to grow up it. Check. (not a lot of ivy to start with- we'll see how it goes at first and i may add more).
St. Brigid anemones (had to have them due to their name!— Anemone coronaria St. Brigid) planted and doing well. Check.
Spearmint varieties planted in the bed on the side of the house. Check.

I better get a job soon. I'm becoming entirely too friggin' domesticated.

$$$ issues aside, give me domesticity over a "real job" anyday. :b Plants don't talk back, impose artificial deadlines or pretend to be smarter than you. ;)

You don't share a house with a four and a half year old, who's convinced that not only is he smarter, but also that his sole purpose in life is to question every damn thing you do.

That sounds familiar. It applies to almost 4 year olds too.

Hell, it also applies to my last roomie.

Hmmm...well *I* do...he stands behind me while i'm on the computer and says...Mama, what's that?, Mama, press that., Mama, why did you do that?, Mama, make that yellow (if I'm working in a graphics program) It's extremely frustrating, annoying and cute all at the same time. He's the only 4 year ole *I* know who know the proper use for the word "Voila!"

What am I going to do when they're bigger *and* smarter than me?

(on the flip side, it's amusing to watch him do it to CC..it drives her insane LOL)

Want pictures?

Brighid's circlet. *smile*

As of this moment, i've three blooms opened- two purple ones and one purple and white one. They're very pretty, somewhat poppy-looking flowers.

I'd googled for pictures after you mentioned it, but yours are the prettiest I've seen. My garden definitely needs them! :

The yard is really looking great! He's done a remarkable job. And the whole FEEL of the place is improved, the energy is just wonderful. Yes, stuff still needs to be done, but much of that Mother Nature must do.... we can't force flowers to grow faster or vines to spread faster.... we must enjoy the ever evolving and unfolding changes with which we are gifted.

*hug* i love you, honey. *hug*

He's been so achey and i've been so bitchy, i am guessing he'd prefer it if i sleep in another house, or at least another room. :)

You will please excuse me for being a big fan of ripping ivy out of the ground by the roots and sterilizing the earth around where it was for a couple of months. Ivy really can really screw things up and is a haven for several less-than-savory life forms, not to mention how it tends to eat into any surface it's placed against, like stone walls.

As you might guess, I've had to battle it, and it's denizens, many times in the past. I realize Washington's a bit cold for them, but I can't begin to tell you the number of black widows I've had run ins with while dealing with ivy. Not fun.

Actually, black widow and brown recluse spiders are the only poisonous things (other than bees/wasps) in Western Washington. He is pulling up the ivy from areas near the house and transplanting it into sunlit area of the new fence.

Now... what eats spiders? :D

Now... what eats spiders? Birds, but most of them don't like ivy, either. And black widows love spinning their webs in ivy. It's gotten to the point where I won't go near the stuff because of them.

I really hope you did not put the mint into the ground??? AND...do you have only one variety of mint? Or more than one?
See, mint is pernicious. It WILL take over, just like that huge miles wide blackberry root that runs through Western Washington...or fennel or kudzu. And the mint will compete vigorously with other plants...and win.
Good luck!

Two different spearmint varieties. And i'm counting on them taking over the one bed on the side of the house which gets almost no direct sunlight and is an overwhelming tangle of weeds in the process of getting ripped out.
