OK, i'm annoyed. Not only am i a hopeless geek, but i still can rely on really bad luck whenever there's a chance i might catch a break for whatever. Oh, well- at least it keeps me from commiting any egregious social errors, even if it's just because i've gotten shot in the foot before i had the chance to commite les fautes sociales.

Christine's the manager of the local Hot Topic. I'm not completely sure why i find her intriguing, but if i had to guess i'd say it's that she's enough of a freak to be interesting- it's not every day that you see people in Skagit Valley with royal blue and black hair and facial piercings. I can honestly say that i don't just want to get in her pants. If the chance presented itself, i probably wouldn't say no, but it's definitely not a priority- i'm not sex-starved enough to be looking for a casual fuck, but there aren't enough people that i know well enough around here to just hang out with, and she seems like a cool enough person that hanging out might be fun. She's also tattooed in a few visible locations (and it wouldn't surprise me if there were piercings and tattoos which weren't readily visible as well). Tattoos aren't usually something i notice with approval- they're usually a turn-off, but, like interesting jewelry, they're often a place to start a conversation. She wears a triskelion and an ankh, and has another ankh and an eye of Horus amongst the body-art.

Last night when we stopped in, they were having computer problems- oddly enough, mice stop responding when their wires get crimped by having hard metal objects like cash drawers shoved over them. Anyway, identifying that and getting the problem fixed was easy enough. While doing this, i noticed that they're using the standard 'boring' Windows cursors, so i asked why not something cool like one of the ankh pointer sets- they'd kinda fit with the general feel of the store and with her personal style. Turns out that they need approval from district or regional management before doing anything like that, but she's totally into the idea.

So, we come home after our walk, and i find a few different sets- including one in a Death (from Sandman) theme that's now the default on my laptop. The cursor sets are now all installed on the laptop, and they've all got some cool bits.

Today, we're back over there, and she's in again, so I walk home, grab the laptop (the battery on it says it's 24% charged, so i figure it should at least boot and let me show her the sets to find out which she wants if they get permission, and drive back over (since we're going to the grocery store afterward).

So, back over, with laptop in hand to show the pointers off. Damn thing doesn't even finish booting before the battery dies. Now i feel stupid, and, instead of coming off as the kinda cool person who has stuff to contribute, i'm the poor pathetic schlub for whom nothing works right. Fuck.
