Help!

Have a sorta dressy-uppy thingie to attend tonight. Can't figure out how to dress.
Two options:
or

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] s33kr, [livejournal.com profile] ametysta and [livejournal.com profile] mashuta, that is what you think it is. Belt's a little lower than it should be- should have looked in a mirror first to get everything properly aligned. No ribbon bars since i never served- i wouldn't dishonour those who were military by wearing decorations which weren't earned.

Anyway, which way should i dress for the evening?

A party to which the attire is "dress formally, whatever that means to you."

Maybe it's the angle, but your hat in the first one just looks silly. Like vinyl fetish greek fisherman wannabe dominatrix hat.

I'm hoping it's the angle...

Usually if i'm dressing in it, the excess hair gets braided and tucked in. In this case, it was just pulled back, so the hat was probably riding up a little (on the ponytail holder), which makes it look odder than usual.

Very fetching pix!

I'd go with the 2nd one, unless you know that a uniform would fit in. And unless it's very formal, I'd dress it down a bit.. turtleneck instead of the dress shirt, tie and vest. They both look good tho..

The general directions were "Dress formally, whatever that means to you."

Meant there were three options from my wardrobe:
Red Army parade dress uniform (left picture)
Contemporary formalwear (right picture)
SCA court attire

Seems to me that "whatever that means to you" sort releases you from "very formal", then.

Hope you have a good time. :)

actually...

whatever that means to you does not release you from very formal at all. If formal means very formal to you, and it does to him... well that is what it *means*. :D

He did indeed where the vest and tie and I was THRILLED!!! YAY!!!

Two stars on the shoulder boards equates to Lt. Colonel.

Means you gotta be a full bird colonel or a general to top me. ;-)

Or an NCO. Of course, being a retired NCO might make me just a tad biased. *grin*

Nah. NCO's do the real ordering of people around. They just let the folk in Officer-land think that they're the ones in charge.

Knowing miss_bordeaux' predilections, though, it wasn't top as in outrank we were talking. ;-)

I gotta admit, the parade dress does look snazzy.

Probably too late by now, but we only just got home a little while ago, so... If you're looking to be near to the center of attention then I'd go with the uniform, but if you're looking for a smoother blend with the crowd then the suit would be a better choice. Either way, very sharp.

I like the way you look in the suit, it's very sharp.

And in the uniform photo, I don't know if it is the angle, but you look strangely like Malcolm McDowell. Milk anyone?

I realize how this may sound coming from me, but looking at you in the second picture, all I can think is "Dayum." No, let me be more precise...

"Dayum!"
