Following in [livejournal.com profile] staxxy's footsteps, i'm thinking about creating a "Year In Review" CD.

Tentative contents at present include:

January through April
Hisaishi Jo — Tatakai No Taiko
Cyndi Lauper — Time After Time
Bob Seger — Turn the Page
Forbidden Broadway featuring Ann Miller — I'm Still Weird
St. Petersburg Philharmonic — Arise Ye Russian People (S. Prokofiev composer)

May through August
Thou Shalt Not — If I Only Were a Goth
Joe's Big Ego — Stress
Great Big Sea — As Fast As I Can
Juliana Hatfield — Every Breath You Take
Maggie's Fury — Raglan Road
The Tragically Hip — Vapour Trails

September through December
Bass Kittens — Invader Zim Theme (Impending Doom remix)
Future Bible Heroes — O! What a Dream It Was
Miranda Sex Garden — Ardera Sempre
Faith and the Muse — In Dreams of Mine
Haujobb — Subsonic
Apoptygma Berzerk — Until the End of the World
Seven Nations — Our Day Will Come

There are a few possible substitutions still. I'd love to be able to fit in VNV Nation — Electronaut; Great Big Sea — Clearest Indication; and something original, assuming i can find a way to record it and fit it in.

Any interest, or any songs i'm overlooking which should be included?

I'm SO pleased to see that you included Great Big Sea!!

When I need a pick-me-up, or a turn-around, I always choose Great Big Sea's "Road Rage." After all, who could POSSIBLY still be pissy while listening to "Donkey Riding"?????? It's impossible.

As for the GBS song selections, I'd have to say that the two you named are the ones that most commonly run through my head when I find myself without music and singing in my head. Yay!

I miss hanging out with you. And with V and even Alexander (NOT! Alex); we need to get together soon instead of just talking about it!

GBS was a must. Not just because i love their stuff, or sing it quite often, but because they tie in with the year so well. "Someday Soon" and "How Did We Get From Saying I Love You" were also strong contenders. There are a few others which belong in consideration- Bif Naked's "I Love Myself Today" probably belongs in the third section, and I'd really like to find space for any one of the following:
Jeff Beck — Freeway Jam
Randy Newman — That's Why I Love Mankind
Joe Satriani — The Crush of Love
and one or more traditional pipe tunes.

You're also more-than-welcome to a copy of "Can't Help Falling In Love" Irish-jig/tin whistle/pipes version by Lick the Tins that I played for you... but I know that since you only heard it once, it hardly qualifies as worthy of the year in review... but for some other use (or any other of my musics), you're absolutely welcome to it all.

It's funny, but most songs in my "year in review: 2002" are songs from the past that suddenly have bright, shiny, new meaning... Maybe I'll be a copy-cat too!

ps - I'd love to have a copy of yours too if it's not too much trouble!
