and once for the chopper, to chop off your head.

I no longer need to worry about my asshole boss. My job now officially belongs to a contractor. Never mind that no one else in my former group has even read the specs for the areas i owned, or that the automation i have in place has a learning cycle of several months to be able to do anything with it, and that the sweeping changes i had in progress for it are completely undocumented. Nope. Someone else can figure out my mess of VB code, and can care about a product like Office (which is really a series of independent applications which happen to use some common libraries) in languages like Arabic and Hindi.

I'll be at coffee tomorrow night and the Mercury afterwards, if anyone feels obligated to commiserate.

I'm both concerned as to where income is going to be coming from, and relieved that now my job is someone else's problem.

So you finally just up and quit? That's pretty brave of you in this job market (as Susan and I have found out). Hope you find something else soon, but at least you don't have the stress to worry about now.

Nope. My position got eliminated. Nice of them to do it while i was still on a medically mandated restriction to 40 hours.

Do you think that's why they did it? Because they wanted more work out of you?

Oh, and what the fuck is up with laying people off a few months before the birth of a child? Is this, like, the norm now?

Grrr.

Corporate loyalty is worth nothing.

I'm sure the position just got officially eliminated because my boss wasn't happy with me.

Never mind that last project my team owned one area, and was three regular employees and two contractors; and that this release owns three times as much with (now) two employees and one contractor.

And people wonder what ever happened to the country's work ethic... Might it have something to do with not being able to care about a job that doesn't care about you and has no security whatsoever?

At any rate I'm really sorry that this has happened and you are in Lauren and my thoughts and prayers. I hope this is a very brief bubble that will soon pass and to that end am bending my thoughts and wishes. Good luck.

There are a few openings with the City of Seattle, mostly within the Arts programmes, including openings for a project manager, a webmaster, and online-publications director. I've also seen some games producer positions which i might be considered qualified for.

I'm not too worried about it. At least now i don't have an excuse not to look for a job somewhere else.

No great shock here, except that i'd have figured they'd have waited until mid-year evaluations in February.

Thanks, Heather. We'll pull through. I'm viewing this as a door being closed, which means it's time to look for the open window.

Well hell. That really sucks...nice of them to wait until after the holdiays and all. Fuckers. :( Wow...that's just so....evil. D'you suppose they are distantly related to Susan and Jeffrey's company? *sigh* Well look on the bright side...the pros are, you don't have to worry about your dickhead of a boss and you have more time to look for a new/better job. :) I'm always one to look on the bright side.

Corporate america is a bunch of assholes anyway.

Well, i try to think of the positives..... At least we have money in savings. By doing it before the end of the year his "use it or lose it" vacation (which he didn't put in for cuz his boss said to do so would risk his job) won't be lost... he should get paid for all 100+ hours of vacation, not 75 or so. Also, because his "position was eliminated" (as opposed to being let go for "poor performance" - which i am certain is his bosses perspective, although there isn't any objective evidence of this) he gets unemployment right away, as opposed to having to wait 12 weeks or so. See... look at all the positives.

i do find it interesting that a week after he talks to HR about problems with his boss (and while the HR person he was working with - who stated they were a poor fit and was working with [livejournal.com profile] wingedelf to get a position elsewhere - is out on vacation) this happens. Of course the two aren't related......

Though it does seem like more of an opportunity opening up, than one closing down.

Are you at least getting a severance package?

That's pretty fucking lame. I'm glad you are at least free of a mean situation.

Um.. here's an option, if you like. You know we want to start a co-housing community, eh? We're open to talking about it with you all. Something to think about..

CRAP. Is there any legal recourse for you. (I haven't read all the comments yet so don't answer if you already have). Candles lit for you. Take what you need, my friend.
