you get out of bed in the morning, handle minor domestic errands about the house, decide to take a shower a bit later, and then wonder why there are water droplets in front of your eyes.

Yes, you got it right. I got up, put on my glasses, and didn't even think about it until i got in the shower, when i realized i didn't have my contacts in.

Wow -- I really enjoyed reading yr journal, it's nice to know that there are other people actually posting things that matter, and require real thought. You capture yourself really well.

Glad you enjoyed it.
In general, i try not to take myself too seriously, so i laugh at me at least as much as most of my friends will admit to doing.

How much any of it matters, i don't know- it's just my life, some things which amuse or annoy me, and the general bitching about life in general. Some- like the bits about how to treat people one's courting are general; others are fairly specific to life in the Seattle-area or Seattle Goth community.

I try to keep the fluff to a minimum. I suppose it's a sort of therapy, and cheaper than most. ;-)

I agree with you, that the ability to laugh at yourself is a must.

And yeah, you might think the journal "just" represents yr life, but you should award yourself for being real!

Don't know how it is where you are, but in Seattle, the general goth community divides itself into two distinct sub-categories- the overly pretentious and/or melodramatic; and those of us who were always misfits or loners growing up and who are glad to be accepted amongst kindred spirits. Community pulls us together, and provides a fertile field for funny happenings. Love and life happen, and there's no reason for me to dress them up in my journal. Besides, being real is about all that works well- i'm barely good enough at being me to dare trying to be someone else.

That's really interesting! Actually, I am an outsider quite fascinated by the Goth subculture, and I research it independently, along with a few other cultures. Here in my small, conservative town, there isn't a lot of gothic awareness or acception...just one of those things. But I live close enough to Lansing, MI - Detroit, MI - that some of the industrial metal goth clubs have been inviting! Perhaps sometime in the future.

I collect essays and news on goth, and I hope someday to include that scene in my art somehow...it's very early and vague as of yet, but I'd like to create something that represents some of that attractive reality.

I'm always doing that. Not that it hurts anything, but I just feel dumb once I'm in the shower and I realize my glasses are still on. It's become a regular part of showering now. Walk through curtains, turn on the water, feel face for glasses...

I forget I have mine in, which is a major accomplishment, considering I wear hard contacts.

I get reminded occasionally, like when I open up the dishwasher right after it's finished, and the steam billows up and cause my contacts to fog over. It's a bit startling.
