Yi-de-di-dee-dittle-dittle-dum....
Nov. 15th, 2002 11:38 amWhen in spring, so it is said, a young man's heart turns to thoughts of love.
As that man ages, the season changes, and here, in the early days of winter, i'm thinking of love- not for myself, but for certain friends who deserve better than spending the winter alone without someone warm with whom to curl up in the evenings until the fields show signs of putting forth verdant shoots yet again.
It's not Ballinagra (or even Connemara, where the film was shot), so being the matchmaker is right out. Accordingly, it's time to switch to the other side of the lineage, and work at playing the role of Yenta, from Solomon Rabinovitz's (better known by the nom de plume Sholom Aleichem) stories about shtetl life in the Pale of Settlement, including Tevye and His Daughters. Hey, if this works out, i might even start charging for my services and become self-employed as Rent-A-Yenta. ;-)
No, i'm laughing at myself yet again. No need to fear. I'm not really thinking about matchmaking, just introducing a few people who deserve to have partners with whom to hibernate. I wish i could do this for all of the single-but-wanting people i know, but there are four in particular who stand out in my mind as having a good chance of being compatible with another person on the short list of the opposite gender - which happens to include two males and two females. (Unfortunately, the GBLT people i know well enough to even consider partnering up are either already mated to another, are mutually incompatible, or have divergent sexual identities/preferences.)
So, introductions may be coming for a few people. I'd really like to see my friends happy and fulfilled, and it's just possible that i know someone who is deserving of the company of someone really nice.
