It's autumn in the Pacific Northwest, and just cool enough that it's ok to wear some of the fun clothes.
Wore the new renaissance-style shirt with the lace-up neck and sleeves with black pants, my soft suede knee boots, and my green velvet cloak to coffee tonight. Got to talk with [livejournal.com profile] greenwood, freshly back from the Midwest, who seemed to be delighted to hear that our weekend plans include joining her as she Knits For Peace at Westlake Centre on Sunday; and [livejournal.com profile] icequeen_669, who i escorted up to the Vogue.
I love dressing up. I don't get to do it nearly enough. Anyway, the trip back home got me thinking about an excuse to dress up occasionally. Thinking about working on committing some of the traditional Gaelic tales- excerpts from the Táin Bo Culainge, the Fenian or Ossianic cycles, some Scottish folklore, perhaps some of the Orkneyjar sagas, perhaps some of the more ecumenical bits from Carmichael's Carmina Gadelica; and some of the simpler bits of folk music- Scots, Irish, Cape Breton and Newfoundland- and trying to have an open seanchaidh session monthly or so.
I figure it'd be fun, it'd give me a chance to actually do some bardic-ish stuff, would be an exercise in memory (i can't recall how long it has been since i've forced myself to memorise something, much less a whole programme) for whomever was in the area and interested in attending. Not quite a ceilidh nor a kitchen party, but somewhere in that vein. Ceol, craic, agus cùileagan, all around fun.
Sound interesting to anyone on my friends list?

Too bad I don't live near Seattle, because I'd love to drop by for one of those

I'm not sure what it is... if it's singing and storytelling.. that sounds fun! Make it a Mon night, and we can come. :)

Doh! Yes. A seanchaidh is a story-teller- although "lore-bearer" might be a better word to use in translation.
