Today's been a weird day. I haven't felt particularly well all day- just a little off across the board. I'm sure that the greater part of this is the result of not having eaten properly all week. Reminds me of being at university in a lot of ways, complete with the temptation to drink too much for no particular reason. I think the rest of it is attributable to the 'moving season' finally beginning to come to a close, just with the general stress relief of being mostly established in the new place.
Found a new little bakery specializing in European style and Jewish baked goods three blocks from the house, on Dravus and 21st. Some really good things there, and i'm sure we'll be regular patrons- one of the traditions of Judaism i really miss is fresh challah on Friday afternoons, and they take orders for challot. After visiting there, it was time to go up to the old place, box up the scattered items still strewn here and there around and work on clearing out the stuff that wasn't worth moving. Also talked to Sarah for a bit on the phone.
Brought alexander back here, pulled out all the stuff from the car, and settled in for the evening, still with a general malaise, with a little melancholia thrown in for spice. Listened to the debut Great Big Sea cd from '93 on the way down, and started kicking myself because my music theory isn't any better than it is. I've been listening to music a bit more technically of late, listening for pieces which might make interesting bagpipe bits (some 80's wave stuff qualifies here, not just traditional or semi-traditional pieces), primarily in the intros and bridges. Problem is that the pipes are in A mixolydian (or, as most pipe music is written, ignoring the modality and sticking to B flat), and most of the stuff i'm listening to is in A, C, D or G (or their respective minor keys), which will necessitate transposition. I'm thinking the easiest way to play with anyone else will be to arrange things with a key change leading into the bridge, then changing out so that anyone else doesn't have to play in an awkward key. I'm thoroughly daunted by this concept at present, even on things which are simple melodically. And i still want to play Under the Milky Way.
Enough babble for one evening. It's time to shut up, eat and continue sipping at Belgian-style ales (i have a few different ones to sample here), and then i'll probably retire and watch The Matchmaker or Monsters Inc., depending on how i'm feeling by then.
