It's been a busy weekend. Friday we went with Kelly, Andy and Kayla down to pick up their new computer (their first), to Ikea, and to Southcenter for luinch and wandering about while the Ryans got Kayla clothes for kindergarten. While they were picking clothes, i was sitting in a music store playing 12-string, and coming to the conclusion that i'd really like to start playing again. Lunch was Rainforest Cafe- an interesting experience, although a bit pricey for the fare in my book. Still, we were told we weren't allowed to pick up any of the cheque, so we definitely got our money's worth out of the deal, and as consultant's fees go, they got off cheap.
Came back, got everything hooked up for them. Realized the folks at the shop gave them an AT keyboard for their new box, but had a spare keyboard here to loan them until we could swap the keyboard out.
Yesterday, we got them online and taught them basic computer usage. I'd forgotten that there are people out there who don't know how to use a search engine, and how potentially frustrating it can be to answer a myriad of "what do i do now?" questions, since they all hgave pretty much the same answer, namely "what do you want to do?"
Had pizza there and played Trivial Pursuit until way late at night. Nice people.
We all went back down to Tukwila with Kelly and Kayla today to switch the keyboard, reclaim the wallet Kelly left at Ikea, and to exchange the clothes which were the wrong size. Dinner at Zoopa. Stopped at Silver Platters (evil, evil store!) on the way back, and found the first Great Big Sea release there (the one that wasn't released in the States, just in Canada), and had to have it. Came home, and finally started resizing the images from the concert and uploading them (actually, they're uploading from the laptop while i'm writing this. I'll throw the pictures behind a cut tag, to spare anyone who couldn't care what the GBS photos look like.
Mea culpa
Anyway, without further ado,
Great Big Sea

Also pictures of all the band members individually:
Darrell PowerAlan DoyleSéan McCannBob Hallett

Bob was on the far side of the stage from where we were at stage right, and it's visible- i'm not happy with any of the pictures of him, but tweaking the lighting on one or two of them might make them salvageable. I have other images of all four band members, and the drummer (Gavin Brown, i think) who's touring with them presently. I'll send links to these to anyone who's really interested, although with a caveat that they're all grab shots in odd lighting, and not all of a quality which i'd generally show anyone. Also feel free to ask to see the Seven Nations or Young Dubliners pictures if you're so inclined. All images are 200x133 px in this page, 800x535 on the larger ones, and i have them in their original 1792x1200 if anyone's really interested in one in particular- let me know what you want and i'll email it.
Anyway, enough for now. Should probably work on playing something, but not really in a mood to do so right now, and certainly don't feel like re-arranging anything for the pipes, although i'd like to do so with some of the songs in the books of songs from Newfoundland i have (yes, including many of the traditional songs GBS has done- that's why i bought the two little books). Will probably just head in to bed shortly and re-read a bit more of Kinsella's translation of the Tàin Bo Cuilange.
