Jun. 29th, 2002 11:30 amDinner-talk was good. I think it's definitely something we'll have to do again, perhaps next time on more notice and in a somewhat more condusive venue- it's some how not quite the same when the wait staff needs to be stalked as if it were wild game in an attempt to get service. No, next time we'll pick a place where we can all sit down and talk, and someone will come ask us what we want to eat. Radical concept, nu?
Went to the Merc afterwards, and it proved to be an interesting evening. As unusual as it can be to have decent conversations at the club, i managed to have at least two- with
icequeen669, who i'd met before, but we'd never managed to really talk about anything in particular; and
mediavore, who i hadn't met, and found fascinating (and thanks for the cupcake- it completed the GIR moment from earlier Friday). Had a number of interruptions during the latter with some of the most bizzare, wildly speculative, and just plain off the proverbial deep end suggestions from their standard source.
I've pretty much confirmed my conclusion about why i'm in the community- specifically to talk and develop friendships with intelligent, diverse people who can be at times fascinating, esoteric, diverse and funny. Drama? Only if we're all putting on a stage presentation. Otherwise, i'd just as soon give my share to one of those people who seems to thrive on it, because i certainly don't need it.
Enough babble for now, this is, of course, assuming that anyone other than me bothered to get this far. Oh yeah. One more thing- a sense of irony, or at very least an appreciation thereof is one of those desirable qualities in people as well.
