Alexander's fighting with his writing in the National Novel Writing Month Young Writer's Program. I think when he sits down, he has so many idead rattling around in his skull, he doesn't know where to start, and as a result spends a lot of time getting distracted with other things. I'm not sure how to help him with this, other than continuing to try supporting his efforts. I think he's at about a quarter way to his ten thousand word goal.
I started doing this specifically to try supporting him, so that he'd have someone to talk with who was going through the same thing in the same timeframe. Mine started slowly and tediously- in the first seven days, I only had a single day where my written word count for the day broke sixteen hundred and only two others which passed twelve hundred and fifty.
The last eight days, though, have been another story. Of them, only one has fallen below two thousand words (mainly because the site widget was down, and as a result, I thought I was farther along than I was), and even that one broke sixteen hundred. Three have passed the twenty-three hundred point, and one eclipsed twenty-five hundred.
Today was a bit of a slog. I wanted to reach the halfway point and to try finishing up some of the bits which I had framed out but had left relatively undetailed. Ended up succeeding at both, but got a late start and felt as if I wasn't being particularly productive until the last hour. Still, ahead of target has to count for something, right? Not enough ahead to take a day off, but still....
