This one, for my friend
volchossa. For those of you who are hockey fans, she recently had an episode very similar to what was experienced by Detroit Red Wings defenceman Jiří Fischer and collapsed on the bench.
From the team trainer's report:
"I was checking the waterbottles when I heard a loud noise on the bench, and some of the girls on the team yelling. I saw Lydia face-down pinned between the bench and boards, completely unresponsive to anything. Refs immediately stopped the game and cleared the bench, while we tried to flip the player over to see if she was breathing. Approx. 15 seconds after flipping theplayer over, she woke up in a daze, unsure of what happened. Mother of one of the players is an ER nurse and advised us to help her to a car and would drive her to the hospital, thinking it was a concussion."
Tests for concussion were apparently negative, as was a CAT scan, spinal tap and blood tests, so she was in hospital again today for cardiac tests, but no definitive indication of causality to the best of my knowledge (Lydia hasn't updated with any, anyhow), but this shouldn't be happening to athletes under the age of twenty-five, so there's cause for significant concern, and she could use all the prayers you could spare. Lyds, you're in all of ours here.
