Dec. 3rd, 2007 08:53 pmI am not a huge football fan, but ended up watching the last bit of the New England Patriots at Baltimore Ravens game. I don't think i've ever seen a professional sports team so thoroughly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as the Ravens did.
Fourth and one, Patriots run and the Ravens stuff the run. Except a timeout had been called on their sideline just before the ball was put into play. Then a false start penalty made it fourth-and-six, but the Patriots' quarterback scrambled for the first down and a fresh set of downs.
On that series, on fourth-and-four, a pass fell incomplete in the end zone. Except for the penalty flag on one of the defensive secondary, which made it first and goal, and, well, if you keep giving a team chances, eventually they'll capitalize on one.
Adding insult to injury, there were thirty-five yards in penalties assessed before the kickoff.
